Steve Larsen - Pro cyclist and triathlete has passed away

It was reported that Steve had suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening while doing a running workout. Later, it was reported that his death may have been due to a viral infection or something allergy related. Regardless, this is a huge loss to the world of multi-sport and cycling.
For those of you that do not know, Steve Larsen was a team mate to Lance Armstrong on the old Motorola team and a 2 time NORBA cycling champion before he entered triathlon. Once he entered triathlon, he quickly made a name for himself as he put up incredible results and easily qualified for Hawaii.

Tour of the Gila

Well it was an interesting day today during the first stage of the Tour of the Gila.  My second cycling race and first multi-stage race.  After 20 years of triathlon racing, I have learned, humbly, that category racing is different.  One mistake today, cost me everything!

Mountain biking with friends

Went Mountain biking with some friends today in the Pah Rah's. Check out the attached pictures. There was a storm blowing in and we encountered 30-40mph wind gusts. This made for some tough climbing. Some sections of the trail were a little scary too, because the wind was nearly blowing us off the trail. All in all a good day!

Time to get serious

Here it is March 1st, and I looked at the calendar this week and there's no question. It's time to get serious about Ironman Couer d'Alene. 15 weeks! It's hard to realize that the end of June is that close!
I am one of those triathletes that always works out, but NOT to the level of race fitness or Ironman. Life is toooo busy with work and kids and soccer, gymnastics, and swim team around the corner. But when it is crunch time, I get motivated to just be more effiecient than usual. Still no tv (except the news occasional or a dvd with the kids), and no just "hangin' out". Yes, I generally never find myself bored and just doing nothing. I wish I could sleep in a few more lazy mornings though!

Workout plans this week 2/23/09

The weather just seems to not really be cooperating to get out!
I thought we should get together at Gold's gym and meet for some lunch time swimming. Who is up for Wednesday, lunch time?
Maybe some treadmill runs too.

Let's train

I have not heard from anyone lately. No more athlete's in you? Let's try and ski on Saturday at Mt. Rose - weather looks to be dumping a few feet of new snow so it should be fun.
If weather holds up a bike ride for Sunday?
What's happening with the trail in the Pah Rah's? Anyone mtn. biking lately?

Running in Honduras

Well, Rock n Roll has come and past, and my ankle is on the mend....Time to start going again. My cycling has been consistantly inconsistant, but there. Swimming?? Just inconsistant. Now is when I really need to get things together in some organized way. Well.....What works for me anyway! I am keeping my introduction to running short and simple. Today a wopping 2.5 miles!! But I plan to slowly increase it over the next several weeks and get back my fitness. No more Starbuck's Runs! I'll keep to the trails.

Skiing in Tahoe?

I had to show a little of this..........I'm in Reno/Tahoe visiting a friend and skiing this long weekend. Both of my kids love to ski and this is their 4th season. But today.........I had a hard time calling this true skiing! The winds were amazing.....The snow was falling....Most of the mountain was closed due to winds.......But! We travelled to go skiing today! So we attempted to........The kids were troopers. They are truly awesome. If all people would be so willing to get out there! But we all know.......Most are a bunch of whiners!!

Rock-n-Roll OUT!!!

Well, after a year of trail running peaks (Mt Whitney,Baldy, Wrightston, Wasson, and Mica)..... Ironman Arizona... Double century weekend in Borrego Springs.....No serious aches/pains beyond expected..........I fully SPRAINED my right ankle jumping over a frickin' puddle last week after getting a Starbucks. The rare rain in Tucson did me in!!! Totally landed wrong. I will just say it...........Fuck! Who reads this anyway!!
